Philosophy of EducationI believe as an educator that every student deserves to feel welcomed, represented and valued in the classroom. The classroom should be a safe environment where students are encouraged to grow, learn from their mistakes and explore their interests. Students should learn by doing. They will learn best and retain information with a hands-on and engaging environment. Students need to collaborate, discover, explore, ask questions and create throughout the day. This is why I create a positive classroom community, where learning and acceptance are at the forefront. Students need to learn and interact with the world around them through service projects and community involvement. They need to see the teacher’s love of learning and passions. In seeing this, they will begin to understand that learning is not just in the classroom, but a passion they should hold throughout their lives.
Students are unique, which their education should reflect. They need a differentiated education that appeals to their interests. I want students to learn about a variety of topics and individuals to see their cultures, backgrounds, religions and passions represented in the curriculum. I set high expectations for my students, but provide them with the tools and individual support they need to achieve these high standards. Giving students choice and varied opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge on a topic will lead to their success. Students need to have 21st century skills in order to adapt to the changing world. This is why I implement technology in all aspects of my classroom and am constantly adjusting my teaching to meet the needs of today’s students. I believe that together with parents, teachers help set the stage for a life long desire to learn and this is the driving force behind my teaching. |
